Mish, you forgot about people tapping their 401k plans.

For many younger folks, 401k's are not the iron-clad no-touch plans the older generation looks at them as. They are more fluid plans with the younger crowd and looked at like a piggy bank that can be smashed and raided periodically if needed.

Isn't there some ratio of Reserves/ Loans that the bank must maintain? Maybe some of the bank's reserves disappeared.
