I've read four of Webb's novels, and trust me, by today's standards there is nothing in them that could hurt him. He is actually a pretty good writer. In 2006, Allen made a lame attempt to make an issue of one passage in "Lost Soldiers."

"Fields of Fire" and "Lost Soldiers" are particularly good. I gave a copy of "Lost Soldiers" to an academic friend of mine before he made a trip to Vietnam last summer. At a semi-state dinner, he cited a section of the book that documented how badly the North Vietnamese had treated the former ARVN soldiers after the war to Miss Vietnam and made her cry, not once, but three times. She was in complete denial.

Webb would be an excellent choice for Obama, though he may be too conservative for the Democratic base.

I don't know why certain people on this thread feel obligated to reward Clinton for her bad behavior. She should be punished, not rewarded. Obama is not going to make her his V.P. selection. Why would he want to take on the Bill Clinton baggage? As for replacing Harry Reid, she is going to have to fight for that position. She is going to come out of this campaign weaker, not stronger, and the knives will be out.
