STUPIDITY cast in the concrete of paternalistic Big Government Authoritarianism (no doubt connected somehow at it's roots to a festering strain of puritanical thought that has sadly lingered in our national gestalt). Truly, psychoactive substances (of ALL TYPES... but most demonstrably from three general groupings: booze, tobacco, pharmaceuticals) all have the potential for effecting both 'good' and 'harm' in society. Always have --- ever since before the dawn of recorded history. This will not change. However the LARGER PORTION of the observed harm that is oft attributed to the 'illegals' is mostly self-inflicted by our poor governance... is a direct consequence of foolish and counter-productive PROHIBITIONARY policies, not some inherent and unavoidable aftereffect of the substances themselves. Big Government, and the Authoritarians who support it's attacks on liberty, are the larger portion of the problem. (Unfortunately, I think there will always be plenty of Big Government supporting, 'takes a village' meddlesome Authoritarian / Puritanical busybodies around to use these issues as a ploy to keep Big Brother in power.)
