Without government intervention, how long do you think the robber barons would last?

Who's a robber baron today?

Anyway to answer your question - It depends on how you define government intervention. If keeping the peace, having a court system to settle disputes etc. is "intervention" than they probably wouldn't last long (or if they did they would have to hire a private army for security, and even their incomes would go down), but I wouldn't define such things as government intervention.

The trend is clear. Government or governments are here to stay.

Mostly likely. But only anarchists (or those who don't like, but are predicting anarchy) would say otherwise. I don't see any anarchists (or anarchy predictors) around here.

Things will get better and better.

Overall, probably, and esp. in economic and technological terms. But not all these ongoing changes are for the better.

We live in a system that was designed for grow but, of course, there are people that think they know it all and they will do everything possible to stop progress.

Your begging the question. The issue is if things like universal single payer health care are really progress.
