but I think he used the word terrorist 23 times in his state of the unions speech.

You have to repeat yourself a lot when trying to reach morons like you....

If you'd read either of Gen. Petraeus's reports, you'd know the difference between a terrorist and an insurgent.

Insurgency is becoming a thing of the past in Iraq. There are still some skirmishes and some bomb blasts but it is more vendetta style retaliation than actual attempts to take over.

If you are watching the changes in media reporting you should have noticed a shift of attention to the border regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. I suspect that by the time the next US admin is up and running we will be redeploying to that region if we are able and if we haven't already done so.

Al-Sadr formed the Mehdi Army in Southern Iraq a few years ago and if you know anything about the Mehdi lore you know the goal of the Mehdi Army is to subsume every fighting force of the shi'ites and subdue the globe under Khalifate rule. If you know anything about Al-Sadr you know he can't be bought. Al-Sadr has been very deliberate and cunning in the development of a shadow Mehdi Army power that will extend from Iran, through Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon initially... A Shi'ite crescent of power. He saw a couple of years ago that it was in his best interests to support the pacification of Iraq as the most likely method to force the US military to abandon its occupation...not because he likes what we are doing... He hates the US as much as the most extreme radical in the rival Suni Al-Qaida. His Mehdi 'militia' army now rivals the Iraqi national army and the president of Iraq is bound to get Sadr's approval on all major decisions.

The way things are shaping up we will eventually support the Suni Crescent that will challenge the Shi'ite power. And yes, I'm talking about the same Suni fundies that are beginning to take over Pakistan and Afghanistan. We will eventually make a peaceful alliance with them. They will extend their crescent of power from Pakistan through Afghanistan, Turkey, Jordan, and parts of Asyria to clash with the Shi'ite power crescent in a major conflict. The Suni Arab countries of Egypt and Saudi Arabia will welcome/insist upon our support. We will have non-religious justification for our role as participants and we are the gate keepers for other western super powers to throw in on one side or the other. It wont be an exact split of powers on one side or the other, there will be a quadrilateral division of opposition. All of this will shape up come to a head and be resolved within the next 5 years or so.
