OT There were goons on both sides of the labor disputes. Its not like the unions treated "scabs" very well. Even now you sometimes get violence from unions. And the unions get more legal support than the employers. Perhaps this wasn't the case back in the days of "the robber barons" but it is now. cato.org nationalreview.com nrtwc.org

Did I say something that wasn't true? Yes. "if it was up to you guys and no government intervention, we probably WOULD still have kids working in the mines." When you chose to personalize your feelings into an insult towards me, you succeeded in offending me. Perhaps because it was so far off base, I should have just chocked it up as a drive by insult. I do understand that people get impressions about others. You have stated that you don't read every post on the subject so you might have missed my posts on responsibility and charity. The number one area in which I differ from the fans of Socialized Medicine is that I choose to see beyond the short term to the unavoidable long term effects. It took complete failure of the economy for Britain to divest itself of many of its socialized industries. It also took tremendous political courage. Miners and others who wanted nannystatism instead of responsibility for doing their jobs protested all over the country. It will take many more examples of the Socialized Medical system making clear they don't appreciate a person sentenced to death by them questioning their authority to before the political capital to restore responsibility is built.
