Actually, there is still a LOT of opposition to interbreeding. There is always tension between mating with neighbouring tribes and killing them off. Romeo and Juliet for example, and since that's just literature, there's Fiddler on the Roof. No wait, that's a story too. The conflict is a Y chromosome activity and the fence jumping for mating is a female activity. Nature likes action, red in tooth and claw action; all is fair in love and war.
