I know it's heresy but I think he is just early. At least with respect to the Gold~Silver relationship. Of course he may not be thinking along these lines but here goes, at least the way I understand it.

I think through February the spread game is to short Gold & go Long Silver because Silver generally is seasonally more bullish than Gold. As we go into March & April the spreads come off, and although Silver may continue to perform well Gold tends to start playing catch up.

In any event, he isn't shorting Silver so it's just an opportunity cost. You're right though, I would not have vacated the position on such a signal.

Somebody, perhaps on Sinclair's website, suggested that Silver moves closely with Soybeans. I don't know where that comes from, but it sounds just as good as his logic and Beans are hitting new record highs every day.
