The country went to the right as well. People bought the nonsense that there is a free market, that capitalism solves all ills and government or any organized effort (except for organized corporate effort LOL) was some kind of commie plot.

It was a religion and still is for some. It took the unbelievable corruption of Bush to make the majority of people see that something is up and maybe dog-eat-dog capitalism is really just corruption in disguise.
