In some places, yes. Free would not be cheap enough.

Consider, those houses have probably had all their copper plumbing and electrical wires ripped out, and the walls ripped open to get to them. Any fixture with any value at all is missing, sinks, tubs, toilets, lights, etc.

If you bought one, you'd be responsible for it! What could you possibly do with it?

If you want a step up from the Detroit ghettos, then how about Park City?? It seems as though some "high-end" folks are a bit over-extended as well. All of these homes are in just one subdivision, Promontory, which is one of the newest and most prestigious in town.
