"You think?"

Yep. First off, there are several who obviously aren't the final cylon. It isn't any of the main characters. If it were the admiral or Roslin it would mean the Colonials are essentially pets with no chance of self-determination. They are working too hard to make Starbuck look like the final cylon, so she is out. I used to think Gaeta was a natural, but they have also been trying to make him look like the guy, so he is off the list.

Look at the other 4. They all share a common characteristic, they support and protect one of the main characters if you take the stance that Galactica herself is a character. In addition, Cylons tend to take on Big Causes. Look at Tigh on New Caprica. Tory is the epitome of the political operative. Anders was into the resistance to an amazing degree and now is a Viper pilot. Chief, well, the ship is his life. And, if you watched the extended version of Razor, there is the prophecy of the hybrid. Where he talks about the final one, in the shadows, longing for redemption and clawing to the light in a howl of agony. Or something like that.

So, who best fits this? Well, IMHO, Season 4 is when boy scout Lee comes into his own. He has been drifting through the whole series, in the shadow of his dad and perceived expectations. Every once in a while he shows some signs of growing a pair, but keeps lapsing back into his old patterns. However, the trial was the first time he really stepped out of his box. So I think he is going to be a lot more important in the future. Given that he doesn't have a protector, the final cylon is going to be whoever becomes his best bud.

Now that Lee is out of the cockpit and a civvie, he needs to find something. Before the trial, attaching himself to Roslin would be a natural. But that bridge is burned now. He is lucky if she doesn't airlock him. Working with Romo is possible, but Romo isn't the final cylon. Romo isn't for Big Causes, Romo is in the game for Romo. Ok, so who else? Well, I think Lee's Big Cause will be dealing with the Baltarians. Because of the trial, I can see Baltar trying to recruit Lee. I also think Lee will quickly realize the danger that Baltar and his girls pose to the fleet. But, dealing with the Baltarians is not something that can be done through the normal channels. Lee is going to need some of the other resources of the fleet, the side he worked with in "Black Market".

Zarek fits the criteria. No one is in more need of redemption. Baltar never would have been elected if Tom hadn't facilitated it. Plus, he is literally in the shadows, but he does crave being in the light. And Tom is a Big Causes kind of guy. Finally, no one is better positioned to be a link with the criminal side of the fleet than Zarek.

So, unless we find out that Helo has secretly taken control of the black market, Tom is my choice. I am probably all wrong, but it makes sense.

At least to me...
