I see us coming into really bad times. I pity the next president, but we are certainly gonna need somebody with the ability to do more than push the button. We'll follow somebody who tells us where we are headed, and challenges us, especially when he says "we".
I don't remember JFK grabbing the imagination this much until he hd been around a while, and ladies began dressing like Jackie. But he was able to give us direction just by his words. "Ask not", of course, which gave birth to the Peace Corps and inspired a lot of us old farts, and
"We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too."

FDR had it even more. Fireside chats kept the country together thru depression and real war.
I think Obama is like that. In 20 years, you'll see pictures of President Obama hanging in white folks houses.
