Partitioning is the only hope to salvage anything from the mess. And they might not even be able to salvage anything unless they deal with the Kurdish situation.

It would be preceded by a messy separation of integrated regions and resources...I don't know how messy or if not too messy to attempt. But I agree in principle.

The problem is that the State department of the US has a knee jerk reaction against partitions.

Of course...it is not in keeping with their idiotic initial goal of democracy to a region with deep religious and long standing ethnic divisions.
