Dell has the same problem as any vendor in the discretionary consumer business in todays economy. The consumer either has no money, or is wise enough to look and wait for super value. I have been configuring a new Dell computer, for over a month, that I can easily afford, but since I have three other computers in my office and I am replacing a six year old Dell that is currently running adequately I can wait for the best value.

Dell has to continue to price promote to attract buyers and generate cash flow. I think it may take them a while longer to learn how to be profitable in the retail store front business.

I do not currently own Dell stock, but have in the past, profitably, been in and out several times. I moved to HP about a year ago which has proved to be a much better investment. Contemplating today's hit on the Dell price now could be the time to jump in. Don't know if I want to own both HPQ and Dell at the same time, but maybe

Any thoughts?
