I don't really understand it, either. Some of them are not bidding their own properties at the foreclosure sale, I guess they can't afford to maintain the properties and pay property tax?

I have quite a number of clients who have walked away, or haven't paid the mortgage for months and the house is just sitting there, no legal action.

maybe because the creditors that aren't already rotting corpses know that more pain will give them more and better opportunities later so why alleviate it, and the rotting corpses are so dead that nothing they do at this point will matter, their way of doing business is gone. also, stock options have been cashed and salaries paid already, those making the decisions would rather just move along to their next calling. just some ideas, i could be way wrong

why would you keep something on your balance sheet that is continuing to go down in value, is not presently liquid, and will likely wind up owning at a lower price + bailout money later anyway?
