theres a new Tosco store called fresh and easy that is supposed to be TJs first competition. You have those down there and they are coming up here, what do you think?

Had a Fresh & Easy grand opening near my house a couple of weeks ago. Interesting store but Trader Joe's is still king, IMO. Where else can I buy Long Grain Brown Jasmine Rice for 90 cents a pound? TJ's did discontinue my favorite no salt stone ground tortilla chips but I guess I can't have everything. <g>

It's Tesco. We were in one in England last summer. Basically they're slightly oversized 7-11's with nice decor and healthier food.

In the USA, they're being specifically opened in blighted areas where regular grocery stores won't go. I think there is a really questionable assumption being made that the customers in those areas are desperate for fresh vegetables.

I have heard of Fresh and Easy but have not been to one. TJ's has had virtually no competition up to now, they occupied a solo niche, so it will be interesting.
