Jim, I think you stretching quite a bit what I'm saying... of course, you can tell the officer you weren't speeding, or you didn't think you were speeding, this isn't conflict avoidance... I never suggested that you should cower under, that would be silly... and I'm not at all suggesting that you can't have a conversation with a different view or opinion... I'm saying that if you take an attitude and attempt to be confronting with the police, that's not going to win you any points...

The right of citizens to petition the government isn't an obscure idea. It's a well known, protected right.

Also, this wasn't a confrontation. It was more like a discussion. Both of us were being polite and calm.

They simply made a calm decision to ignore the United States Constitution.

Even then, I made an honest attempt to comply with their obviously illegal order.

In the end, it was more than I could stand.

Hi Jim.....I post this piece now and then as a public service on how to deal with the police. It has always worked for me(except for that time where I thought the MP's would appreciate my drunken humor....;>)
