Obviously a specific example would make the idea more concrete, but I'm not sure that this doesn't lend itself to abstraction as well as most other ideas. To the extent you can identify an coherent set of ideas that are "conservative" and another coherent set of ideas that are "liberal", you have other ideas, some extreme, that are examples of neither, and are not more extreme distortions of either. Maybe part of the problem is that since conservative and liberal are both such expansive and flexible constructs, any extreme idea will get painted by some as a more extreme version of one or the other (or by both as an extreme version of the other side, for example fascism gets painted as both). And then "the center" is also a vague idea. Even if your dealing with someone who is, and is generally recognized as being somewhere in the middle, if they have an extreme idea, few would consider it an extreme centrist idea. And then if the idea gains any traction, and really is somewhere in the middle, it stops being considered extreme. (Which points to the fact that "extreme" is in the eye of the beholder.) So maybe that's why abstraction is a problem here. None of the important terms have precise relevant definitions. So an example might be more helpful than I previously thought. Well if I come up with a new one, I'll try to remember to tell you about it. I remember examples before, but I don't remember the details, and also don't think they where very prominent people.
