I remember talking with John Kerry last summer. This is something you all ought to hear. He told us that he had met in England with the UK defense minister and he had told him that Bush and Blair have decided to go after Iraq no matter what. That is was a done deal. That would have been seven months ago.

Remembering this now, I realize all this debate has been a big smoke screen and waste of time. No wonder Bush was so lax about diplomacy, he really didn't care. Perhaps his father told him to build a coalition first but by then it was too late. Our allies and other country's leaders are not stupid. They always knew Bush was saying once again "my way or the highway". Which is why they despise him.

So I give up talking about giving peace a chance. Bush isn't going to listen no matter what anyone says. It's his war and I just hope more good than bad comes out of it. But already there has been a severe cost for America, a splintering of world unity and paralysis of the domestic and global economy.

Economic well-being is another thing Bush really doesn't care about. He cares about this war. It's something that distracts voters from other more serious problems. Saddam gives him a perfect boogy man he knows he can beat. It already won him one election and it therefore serves his own political interests just fine. So be it, and on with the war I guess.
