I think calculus might be best taught to those who need it, when they need it. If I were to need it now, I'd have to relearn it- unless you just wanted me to fill a cylinder with some liquid, of course... Oh, I completely agree. There is yet another argument here. A general education argument. That the best goal for such is to impart a curiosity about the world, communities and the self and pass along a few tools and resources. And let them get on with lifelong learning. Hard, slacker would say, however, to measure that.
