You didn't just say you disagree, or even find them extreme, you called them looney.

The market has been successfully enough in enough areas, that it might not be unreasonable to think that those who believe government can do much better in this area are looney. I wouldn't go that far, but believing the opposite (that those who see a major role for market forces are themselves looney) is rather unreasonable.

As for guns - there are people who find any regulation intolerable

Are your talking "any regulation" in a theoretical sense, or do you mean "tend to oppose most new gun control legislation". If the former, it fits a rather small group of people. The NRA supports certain types or regulation. To find someone who supports no regulation of any sort you have to look pretty long and hard (and more of them are probably anarchists, or at least extreme libertarians, rather than conservatives)
