Tell your advisor you want investments that will do well in an inflationary environment. See what they come up with. You should see precious metals, real estate, agriculture, collectibles in his suggestions.

You can dabble in art, but time frame would be longer than 15 years.

Do you have an Emergency Fund established. This is 3-6 months living expenses. This should be liquid. You and your spouse should have agreed to define "emergency". If your advisor has not suggested this be wary. Check out assetbuilder.com and Dave Ramsey.com
