It just occurred to me Elmat that there is pole-climbing in my ancestry. My father was involved in radar development during WW2, in a fairly junior capacity since he was just out of university. He installed radar in HMRN warships in various places, e.g. Egypt. As a surveyor in the back-blocks of NZ, his father did a different kind of pole-climbing in his younger days - hacking their way through the forest they often had to surmount steep cliffs, for which a simple ladder would be improvised from a felled tree. As a boy I liked to climb to the top of pine trees and look around.
