The end result of 48 years of "tough" US policies in Cuba was Castro maintaining power as long as he liked, retiring at a time and circumstance of his own choosing and handing over power to his most likeminded possible successor.

Anyone who could call that policy a "success" is divorced from reality, IMHO. I don't see that it ever accomplished any of our policy goals.

But that doesn't matter to the table-bangers when the rhetoric gets heated.

If we got rid of our Cuban phobias, maybe the prostitutes could be working in tourist resorts?

A lot of them already are. Tourism is a decent sized industry in Cuba, and the tourists have hard currency to give to the prostitutes. Very few Americans visit because of the trade embargo, but lots of non-Americans.

Overall I'd be for lifting the embargo, I'm usually for making trade as free as possible. The embargo would be worth it if it was effective, but it hasn't been and I don't see any sign that it will be.
