I remember back in 2000. Towards the end of the year things got very dark and they stayed dark for a lot longer than people could stay liquid and withstand the eventual beating. I was 34 and thought I had all the answers - I had none. 8 years later I have no answers - just questions.

I hope my results mirror the complete 180 in my thought process because I DID NOT do well from 2000-2003.

<<The real question is if we have a late cycle expansion>>

As a point of note, my wife used to work for Cargill and i left mid five figures in a 401(k) and ESPP. Most of the 401(k) was in Company shares. They started showing oversized returns just around 2002. Whether that was from foreign or domestic i don't know. So we seem to be well into a cycle at the very least.

I've never been in the market during a commodoties run...could you quantify you interpretation of a "long cycle"?

tia,

-david

Hi Bob,

sounds good to me, I believe that I have been bullish on commodities on SI since 2000. And I was not the perma bull on commodities in the sense that I was into the growth tech and hyper valuations in 1999 but I was also posting on the Myth thread which knew that it was a .com and tech mania ala the 1967-68 growth stock mania.

We should get together again one of these days, although I'm down by Post Oak and 610 these days. Not quite as close as the old days. You still got the place on the lake?

Best Regards,

John
