It would be a very positive thing if all countries and regions followed a US-like free market construct.

Ain't going to happen ... EVER! The US needs to wise-up. But there is a fine line between protectionism and protecting imho. If the military needs new in-air fuel tankers, they should be bought from American firms, ALWAYS! We have a number of American cos that could compete with Boeing, if they KNEW the US will award the contract to one of them, then someone will step-up to the plate and keep Boeing on their toes.

QCOM/MSFT et al, don't need the US protecting them overseas, their products do just fine on their own, but our governament should make it clear that what goes around comes around. If the Chinese decide to steal IP, then they get tariffs on their products. No questions asked. It might be debatable who needs who more right now, but our government should be helping create an environment where they need us more.
