In any case, there is no taxpayer money involved and the lenders come out ahead compared to foreclosure

And so we need the fed for.......? Telling homeowners to be foolish and they will be rewarded? It's the fault of the fed (Greenspan) that we are in this problem, but there is no way to get the excesses of that reckless policy out of our system without pain.
