**One more point about its exports. The EU is a similar sized economy to the US, but when something is made in South Carolina and sold in CA, it doesn't count as an export, but when its made in Germany and sold in France than it is an export)

I think the way unemployment in Europe is measured is much different.
if you would include a certain % for underemployment, i.e., a service job here in the U.S. with no benefits (by the way, on Canadian public radio..the leading type of 'created job' up north), hardly qualifies as self sufficiency that contributes to the well being of the individual or to a vibrant middle class society. this is debatable to degree.

besides, beer in Germany is much better quality than the beer in S. Carolina.
