The size and quality increase of the average house, doesn't account for all of the increase in the size of mortgages. I'm only saying that its one other way in which people have "more, better, bigger" than they used to, and that overall we still have "more, better, bigger" net of debt.

I was looking for an article that I read sometime ago about this. I believe this is it - reason.com - But I can't actually follow that link right now to check. Its old, but the points it raised have not been made obsolete by the passage of time. People have a much wealthier lifestyle now than in the past.

It does point out which factor is more significant.

Which is irrelevant to the point. It doesn't make the other factor any less real, and its the other factor that I'm talking about. You can name all sorts of things that might be much bigger issues, but they don't make this point false.
