simply not nearly as many people volunteering to consume health care

Lots of people volunteer to consume health care. I consume all I can get without paying an arm and a leg. I find all the diagnostics great fun, particularly the ones where I can see the monitor. I think that's quite common, certainly in my crowd. Lindy Bill has folks signing up for full body scans. The Post has had a couple of articles on them. I will get one when I get around to it. I'm not suggesting that the majority of people do that. Young, healthy people don't bother much with medical care. But I think it's enough to at least compromise your premise.

There are lots of things that we need that we don't over-consume. We don't over-consume rain gutters, sidewalks, spark plugs, soccer balls, vacuum cleaners, umbrellas, etc., etc. The lack of over-consumption isn't enough to differentiate health care.

If you can't acknowledge the facts on the ground how will you solve the problem.

Well, yeah...
