If a person doesn't have enough sense to fund their own retirement, the government should not be required to step forward and do so...

Isn't it in the interest of government to preserve the life of its citizens?

What about that person who "doesn't have enough sense to fund their own retirement"? Doesn't his life need to be preserved? Doesn't he need food and housing, without which he will die? Why are you choosing to protect the life of those with potential breast cancer and not those with potential starvation? And why are you choosing to protect the life of the chocoholic with diabetes and not the gambling addict with no home, no food, and no savings?
