Thank you for posting this.....I wasn't familiar with the idea.

Having read the link, I find myself open to the idea of it.
The history of groups policing themselves is problematic, whether it be politicians, physicians, or Wall St.

But I do share some of your reservations and would want to see lots of debate on this. It's an intriguing idea.

If it is a Star Chamber with real powers, then doesn't it violate the checks and balances clauses, melding powers of the Legislative and Judicial branches? <<

The text you quoted from Obama's website says that the Committee would be empowered to conduct investigations, and that they would report the results of those investigations to the proper authorities for enforcement.

Since they would be investigative only, I don't see how this violates the Constitution.
