Don't get too complacent about those early polls; McCain has 3-6 months to raise money, unify the party and put out his themes on the Democrats and their candidates. The Dems, on the other hand, will spend the next 3-6 months in counterpunch campaign mode against one another and have a messy fight about FL and MI delegates and all the rest.

McCain is sitting pretty now in a lot of respects. Granted, a deteriorating economy will be harder for him to overcome. He may be able to spin Iraq enough to squeak by, too early to say since we don't know what the situation will be on the ground in October.

Democrats have a long record of losing elections they could have won. Better to play it scared and plan for the worst.
