Public sentiment on Iraq is one of the indicators I will be tracking closely, to see if McCain can move the 60%+ negatives down to striking distance for him to sway more independents. As I said, depending on what happens on the ground there, the mood may or may not be significantly different in October compared to today. I have infinite faith in the Dems' ability to punt an election even many Republicans think they "can't lose". We have all seen both parties lapse into that false confidence from time to time.
