Naked shorting is how many brokers made money in the past and do make money today. Many do this under the guise of creating a market after financing a company.

It is the foundation of the promotional market in many ways.

Brokers have agreements amongst themselves to let them out of getting caught in shorts.

Shorting however has almost bankrupted many Toronto and Vancouver firms. It has its dangers.

The last thing many firms want is a major discovery in new junior that may force them to cover.
