If I recall correctly you are, or have been, associated with a prestigious private university which is one of the most highly rated in the world, although, I believe, it is not known for the quality of the medical school, if there is one (I believe there is one on TV). ;^)

I'm retired from a medium sized private university in PA. No medical school. Very good undergraduate teaching institution.

I was, however, on the faculty of one of those places you hint at for six years.

But the point I was making about the quality of undergraduate education offered, the public/private split is only one of the several dimensions along which it varies. As I said, there are more than a few public institutions that provide the possibility for better undergraduate educations than many private ones.

For instance, and this is ancient history, but the University of Texas for a very long time has offered a top of the line undergraduate education in what they call their Plan II program. It's absolutely first rate. Better than I've seen elsewhere. And UT is one of those huge public institutions.
