For what it's worth, I propose that single payer won't happen based on information and belief from what various unnamed insiders tell me. Certainly not right away. But the rhetoric is shifting in that direction. One of the frequent summary lines offered by both Clinton and Obama on the campaign trail is that everyone should have the same insurance they do. The sooner that becomes the consensual rhetoric, the sooner you'll begin to see concrete proposals to make the transition from present employer based system. And I would not be at all surprised to see large employers leading the parade.
