I agree with your post. I'm open and interested in what either Obama or Hillary think they can do. And if even some of the problems are partly corrected, that's a definite improvement.

But I'm pretty skeptical that we'll end up with something anywhere close to some of the EU health care systems in terms of cost and efficiency.

Well, by middle of the road, I guess I really mean don't commit to driving on the right or left shoulder before you start the car. I very much appreciate your and Katelew's willingness to listen to all the alternatives, which is all I wanted to do, so we agree! You may suspect the right answer, but I haven't taken the class and am not ready. (Teacher lingo for you :)

Let the numbercrunchers work it out-- although I tried reading a couple of posts last night full of numbers and even as I applauded them for trying, I realized they were contradicting each other. (I think it was about the costs involved in removing profit). Let the arguments begin. As I said, if you can convince me that Congress will attack the costs, which I doubt because of the strong Rx lobby and trial lawyer lobby, then single payer sounds great. I don't want the govt in charge of my care, but I don't mind a giant clearing house that also ensures everyone has some kind of care available, and we all aren't forced to accept mediocre care. That would be way too socialist for me.
