I have to throw this in. WHen CW was a junior at Rice, he was approached by an Engineering Prof about working with him in developing a Medical Records and Billing program. (His wife was an ob-gyn.) They started a company that would handle all the billing and automate the records system for practices. What CW encountered was enormous resistance from older doctors who were perfectly content to handwrite their notes and stay with the old ways. They saw no need for new-fangled technology.
CW also saw the need for a central location for records, making them available to other doctors and to the patients themselves, and had all kinds of ideas which he tried to interest his boss in developing. Sadly, he was before his time, and he was just a 22 year old with big ideas and no backing. So NOW Google is taking it on. Huh. They needed CW 5 years ago.
