It is an speculator. MTN is an operator NOT an speculator. • An speculator is someone that buy an asset or invest on a given asset to sell it out for a higher price. • An operator sell mobile services for a profit. • Investcom may be, right now, investing their money in any other asset they find profitable, may be palm oil plantation in Malaysia, sugar, oil whatever. • MTN will keep building and expanding networks to make a profit out of selling services. As you can see, working for a speculator is similar to seat on the branch of a dry tree. The only thing that can happen is for it to break down and you fall to the ground. Working for an operator is seating on the branch of growing tree. The Technical part What we are doing now is not to expand a network, we are building an overlay network on top of the existing network With new core, new RF plan and new transmission spectrum. The Organization part The organization also has to be remodeled to be able to deal with the new scope of the company acting as an operator.
