I have read somewhere that the lending practices were very, uh, favorable to creditors. Much the same as in the US. I don't know whether loans were bundled into securities like US mortgages were. Nonetheless, the recent appreciation of the Swissie [in which many, many loans were denominated] combined with the Swiss National Bank's policy of strengthening it suggests that Eastern European RE is headed for trouble.

How does it stack up to what you can get in the states now? US dollar continued implosion will benefit inexpensive RE in fast growing areas someday... just not in 2008<g>
