Anyone who thinks uttering the words "off the record" to a reporter will ensure that the comments remain unpublished is either extremely naive or a fool.

"She is a monster, too—that is off the record—she is stooping to anything," The Scotsman quoted her as saying.

Does off the record mean something else in Scotland?

Um, no. Apparently it means exactly the same thing to Scottish reporters as to American ones. She gave the interview on the record and was a damn fool to think she could selectively withhold her juiciest comments.

I expect McCain will also appologize for Mz. Power's off the record remark sometime today.

Probably not since Ms. Power did not use clinton's middle name when calling her a monster. Unless, she was assigning her a new middle name to replace rodham.
