It is all about the oil and mounting inflationary pressures they let out of the bag this cycle..recall in 1990-92 how the dollar dropped to bail out our insolvent banking system yet the disinflation that began under Volker continued the rest of the decade as fiscal sanity eventually returned along with a strong dollar and real economy flourishing..

If you mean the Fed, I think they are in a panic about the interlocking derivative collapses and bankruptcies. I think they have decided not to worry about oil, commodities, and the buck until it looks as if the financial system is stable. But I (and Paul Volcker also, as best I can tell) think they have simply lost control. Events are now self-directing.

Incidentally, any advice or criticism of my thoughts in this post would be welcome:
