Thanks, Bulba. Banner year for biotechs so far <rolling eyes>. Still some good ones out there YTD, though (like MNTA, IDIX, VPHM and even OSCI). Of course, Bob has most of them.

Have a great weekend, all.

>The Contest portfolios were thrashed even more thoroughly, with the median closing off -14.48% YTD<

Well, I was going to post a mea culpa and abase myself because my portfolio is down 18% at the moment, but the sea of red I see on various biotechs doesn't make me feel any better.

Come on folks, I'm rooting for you!

In my case, the only stock I shouldn't have picked for this year is AMLN, because last year was their winner, and they won't do as well until 2010 or later. I chose AMLN as part of 10 stocks to round out my picks without doing sufficient DD.

EPIX wasn't a good pick, because as ghmmn (spelling? moniker? - I'll check later..) asked, didn't they hit a high point in 2007 with no value driver for 2008?

IMM
Umm...
Up 19% in the last few days of 2007, now down 73%?
Ouch.

Well, TEVA, MNTA, and my last year's pick ILMN, are still in the green.

And AMGN got hammered excessively last year. So, they are holding their own waiting to get hammered again this year.

Did I mention I was a Red Sox fan? Wait 'til next year!

3/14/08 update
From Governor Spitzer's troubles with bare sterns to Governor Bernanke's troubles with Bear Stearns, there was more than enough schadenfreude for everyone on Wall Street last week. When the roller coaster ride came to a halt, the Nasdaq Composite Index closed at the exact same number it closed the prior Friday, 2212.49, putting it down -16.58% YTD (vs. -16.58% YTD a week ago). Scary!
However, the world was not flat for the Nasdaq Biotech Index and the Contest portfolios. The NBI closed down -11.39% YTD (vs. -9.96% YTD a week ago), with the median of the Contest portfolios closing off -17.35% YTD (vs. -14.48% YTD a week ago).
At Friday's close, just two of the 33 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD (ROBERT's and my own) and 9 of the 33 portfolios beat the NBI. Our leader, ROBERT's portfolio, closed the week up 17.1% YTD and my own portfolio held on to second place with a 2.4% YTD gain.
Have a wonderful weekend folks!
