No he's paying it in to the coffers of the federal government that has the power to use it for anything it wants. With the full faith promise of Government of the United States of America that he will get the benefits. Has there EVER been a more substantial guarantee? A lot of people think that its somehow out there in an account for them, but in reality its a tax like any other. No, it's not. You want to undermine our faith in the government of the United States for ideological reasons. Your brokerage account where you keep your IRA or 401K is a lot less stable... your personal savings with private companies are in more danger of default than your Social Security.
