Goldwater never had a chance, first of all. Secondly, after he lost, the righting murdered the winner, depriving the country of peace and prosperity for the next 20 years. Both Kennedys and Johnson probably would have kept the WH for all those years and nobody ran a better economy that JFK did. So remember the only reason Nixon became president was the murder of RFK, and the only reason LBJ escalated the Vietnam War and screwed us up there was JFK's murder. And Jimmy Carter was doomed from the start because of the huge Vietnam War debt along with the crises in the Middle East which only exploded because we were so mired in Vietnam we could do nothing about it. Also the "great" Reagan left us with such a huge debt load it took two administrations raising taxes to balance the budgets again. Clinton finally did that and had the economy soaring. Then Bush-Cheney-DElay moved in and ruined everything. We will be paying off their debts for the next 20 years.
