It would cross anyone's mind. It's what I thought when Bush won his second term. Part of me thought "Yeah, he deserves the blame he's going to get"- and he did, and he does. Does that mean we WANT things to go badly? Well no. But when someone causes a huge problem, it is some satisfaction to see them get the blame- even if that doesn't make the pain of the problem any better. At LEAST the pain of the problem isn't compounded by an unfair apportionment of the blame.
