if you really believe that there wouldn't be much difference

I'm talking orders of magnitude. Sure there's a difference. The question is how big a difference.

He really believes in "winning" through the use of military force

Lots of folks believe lots of things. I'll suggest to you the same thing I used to suggest to the folks on PfP when they went on about the danger from Islamicists--"they want to kill us all." When you evaluate risk you don't just look at what they believe or what they want. You look at their ability to carry it out. McCain would not have the wherewithal to carry out those beliefs in any grand way. He wouldn't have the money or the troops or the backing of the people and the Congress. That's what I said upstream and I'm sticking with it.

And if you think that the S. Court will not move to the right if he appoints a "not clearly right wing judge" but rather one like Roberts

It depends on whom he replaces. I had in mind Stevens. Sure, if you replace Ginsberg with a Roberts you get a move to the right. If you replace Stevens, not so much. It was the "not so much" that I was emphasizing.

We need a balance to Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and the other new guy

I don't disagree with that. But I specifically addressed that lost opportunity and pointed out that a lost opportunity to move to the left is not the same as a move to the right.

This is really important stuff. That's why I'd hold my nose and vote for Hillary

That post was addressed to Rambi, who, like me, can go either way. I realize that it doesn't apply to most people on this thread.
