Despite the thread title IMO you're a closet optimist, Vi -- I really think you're underestimating the coming carnage

Nevertheless, the US could probably use a few optimists -- but I'd stay away from opening a Buick dealership in San Diego for a few years if I were you

If there should be a big drop in gold, a new way to get in (if you think it's going back up) is DGP, maybe already mentioned here, double-long gold ETF.

It is the yesterday debt of US car manufactures that chains them. That debt has to be paid so it is very difficult to compete with manufactures who have controlled debt costs. Add that to areas of cheap labor and you really get a headache. That cheap labor makes debt payable and adds to profit.

Bunch of bumpkins who risk people jobs in the nation as sales of risk is very profitable. Where the profit should be in the result the risk produces.
