I got to Great Lakes naval station right after the riots there for the same reason. Got pretty ugly I understand. I'm from WI and at that time it was 18 to be an adult including drinking. IL was 21.

Can you say drunk driving?

My brother in law was training at Selma. Various local businesses would occasionally refuse to serve military personnel with non caucasian racial characteristics. My sister said it sucked because the base commander would cancel leaves for a couple weeks to remind the town of the economic benefits they were forgoing.

Selma got what she deserved when the USAF training station was closed permanently.
